Caerlaverock Tea Room and Shop

Caerlaverock Tea Room & Shop

Following a fire in October 2016, the Tea Room is presently closed whilst refurbishment work is undertaken.  There is a temporary shop in operation on Glencaple Quay.  The Tea Room & Shop are anticipated to be open again by November 2017.

Caerlaverock Tea Room & Shop openingOur popular Tea Room and Shop is situated prominently on the quayside in the village of Glencaple on the Caerlaverock Estate. It was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in September 2012 and is proving a popular venue for local people and for the thousands of visitors who have already walked through our doors.

Early birds are well catered for since we open at 7am on weekdays. We welcome keen bird watchers, wild life enthusiasts, photographers, wildfowlers and we offer breakfast and takeaways for those needing a quick bite to eat on their way to work. Caerlaverock Tea Room

Both the village shop and the tea room are housed in a spectacular, architect designed building inspired by its maritime surroundings. Designed by Smiths Gore's Architects, the curved roof reflects the powerful Nith tidal bore and the use of timber boarding and incorporation of port holes reflect the shipping which plied the river. Here, visitors can enjoy morning coffee, lunch, tea and a range of snacks as well as freshly brewed speciality teas and coffees while looking out through massive panoramic windows which in turn look directly over the magnificent Nith estuary.  The changing tides, the shifting sands, the salt marshes and the summit of Criffel as well as a multitude of wild birds and mammals can all be observed from the comfort of these stylish, contemporary surroundings.

Takeaway
Some of the food cooked on the premises is available for takeaway including filled rolls, home made pies, quiches and scones and other freshly baked items.

Locally sourced food
The shop provides a good range of everyday household essentials, and basic groceries. Locally made jams and jellies and home baking is also regularly on sale.

Fishing bait
We also sell frozen fishing bait which is proving very popular given our location on Glencaple quayside.
