Caerlaverock Castle

Historic Scotland

Caerlaverock CastleHistoric Scotland is committed to encouraging investment in Scotland's built heritage and it was this commitment that secured the future of Caerlaverock Castle when they took over its restoration and management. Drawing on the skills of stone-masons and other crafts people, Historic Scotland have saved this ancient ruin from total decay by stopping rot, removing trees from the battlements, shoring up walls and skilfully preserving as much of this magnificent building as possible.

Now, this uniquely triangular, moated castle with its massive, crenelated turrets on each corner  and remarkable, inner  '17th century Nithsdale Lodging,' attracts thousands of visitors every year.  It is the perfect starting point for those who wish to taste a little of Caerlaverock's history before venturing further from the castle's precincts into the estate's surrounding woodlands and wet lands.
